Springfield, Illinois may not seem like a tourist mecca, but to American history enthusiasts, it has more to offer than many other much-larger U.S. cities. That is because Springfield is associated with President Abraham Lincoln. Though Lincoln was born and spent much of his childhood in Kentucky, he moved to Springfield as an adult and lived there before going to Washington, D.C. as the President. S
Springfield is the location of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, which is the site of Lincoln’s restored home, and his tomb is located in the city’s Oak Ridge Cemetery. Of course, Springfield is also the capital of Illinois and boasts its statehouse, state fairgrounds, governor’s mansion, and the state museum.
